Plot Summary

As the celestial alignment of their births in the same hospital on the same day forges an unbreakable bond between Elle Evans (Joey King) and Lee Flynn (Joel Courtney), a lifelong friendship blossoms. Their shared experiences are punctuated by a love for dancing, with Noah Flynn (Jacob Elordi), Lee’s older brother, serving as a guardian angel against bullies. Meanwhile, Elle harbors a secret crush on Noah, her feelings simmering beneath the surface like a gentle stream. As Elle navigates adolescence, she grapples with the loss of her mother to cancer and the absence of romantic experiences, having never been kissed or gone on a date.

To safeguard their unique connection, Elle and Lee establish a set of friendship rules, a sacred pact sworn to uphold. Rule #2 ensures that secrets remain locked away from prying eyes, while Rule #9 explicitly prohibits any romantic entanglements with family members. The first day of junior year dawns, and Elle is forced to confront the indignity of wearing a too-small skirt after her regular pants tear apart. Tuppen (Joshua Eady), a football player, takes liberties, prompting Noah to intervene and sparking a confrontation that results in detention for all three.

Tuppen later apologizes, and Elle agrees to go on a date with him, but he ultimately stands her up, as Noah had warned everyone against pursuing her. Lee sets his sights on Mia (Jessica Sutton), one of the OMG girls, a clique of popular college students that includes Olivia (Bianca Bosch) and Gwyneth (Zandile Madliwa). The duo concocts a plan to set up a kissing booth at an upcoming fundraiser, providing Lee with the opportunity to seal his lips with Mia’s.

As tensions rise between Elle and Noah, Elle discovers that he has been threatening college guys not to date her. In a bid to get their kissing booth proposal approved by the student council, Elle promises that Noah will be working the booth, hoping to secure the necessary votes. Her ire further fueled by seeing Noah with another girl at the same party, Elle succumbs to peer pressure from the OMG girls and lets loose, getting drunk and stripping down to her underwear. Noah, ever the protective older brother, steps in, takes Elle home, and firmly reiterates his stance on their relationship: she is his little sister, and he will not hesitate to defend her.

As Elle’s persistence pays off, she finally convinces Noah (played by actor) to lend his star power to the kissing booth, but her cunning plan backfires when Lee takes his place instead. The OMG girls are left disappointed, and Elle is left scrambling to salvage the situation. Meanwhile, a new player enters the scene in Rachel (Meganne Young), who swoops in to steal Noah’s kisses and sends Elle reeling.

In a shocking turn of events, Olivia tricks Elle into manning the booth alone, only to find that Noah has taken his place once again - this time, with Elle as his kissing partner. The experience leaves Elle breathless and bewildered, but also sparks an unexpected attraction to Lee’s bad-boy older brother, Noah Flynn.

As their relationship blossoms, Elle finds herself torn between her loyalty to Lee and her newfound feelings for Noah. The tension comes to a head when Warren (Byron Langley) tries to coax Elle into a hot tub at a beach party, but Noah intervenes, defending his girlfriend’s honor. The confrontation escalates, with Noah ultimately attacking Warren and Elle making a hasty exit.

As the dust settles, Noah and Elle find themselves lost in the moment, detouring to the iconic Hollywood Sign and sharing their first intimate moments together. As they establish rules for their relationship, they prioritize keeping their romance under wraps from Lee until Elle figures out how to break the news.

As their bond grows stronger, Elle finds herself spending less time with Lee, a development that ultimately leads to a confrontation when Lee discovers Elle and Noah in a compromising position in Noah’s bedroom. Elle must intervene to prevent things from getting out of hand, but not before Lee is left reeling from the revelation.

As the weeks tick by, Noah’s absence from school becomes a growing concern, jeopardizing his graduation prospects. Meanwhile, Lee remains steadfast in his indifference towards Elle, leaving her feeling isolated and adrift. The turning point arrives when Elle encounters Lee at the local arcade, where he extends an olive branch and invites her to join him on the dance floor. This marks the beginning of their reconciliation, with Lee finally succumbing to Elle’s efforts to mend their fractured bond.

As Elle and Noah’s relationship begins to flourish once more, Noah musters the courage to confess his love for Elle at the prom, accompanied by a heartfelt apology for his earlier clashes with Lee. In a subsequent heart-to-heart with Lee at home, Noah candidly shares his deepening emotions for Elle, acknowledging that his impending departure for Harvard will soon come between them.

The following day, Elle and Lee’s joint birthday celebration takes an unexpected turn when Elle reveals her long-held feelings for Noah to Lee. Though initially torn, Lee ultimately prioritizes Elle’s happiness, agreeing to aid her in pursuing Noah. In a poignant moment, Elle confides her sentiments to “Lee” - actually Noah, dressed in a Batman costume behind the wheel of Lee’s car - only to discover his true identity.

As Noah prepares to depart for college, he and Elle spend their remaining weeks together, cherishing every precious moment. As they part ways, Elle is left grappling with doubts about their future, yet she remains steadfast in her conviction that a piece of her heart will forever belong to the man who has captured it.
