We follow Jack (Henry Thomas), who is driving under the influence, conversing on his cell phone as he navigates a dark road. The dashboard clock glows 11:14 p.m. when an unexpected impact shatters his windshield, sending him off course. Stopping beside a deer crossing sign, he discovers a body with a grotesquely disfigured face near his vehicle. As another car approaches, he panics, hastily dragging the body out of sight. The newcomer, Norma (Barbara Hershey), misinterprets the situation, believing he has merely hit a deer. Offering to assist him by calling the authorities due to her friendship with the police chief, she insists despite Jack’s protests. Unable to bear the thought of the body being discovered, he decides to hide it in his trunk.

As he makes a move to leave, a police cruiser, driven by Officer Hannagan (Clark Gregg), pulls up behind him. Noting Jack’s strange demeanor, the officer administers a breathalyzer test, which leads to the revelation that Jack’s license is revoked. Arrested on the spot, Jack’s luck takes a turn when he manages to free himself and escape after a chaotic scuffle inside the cruiser with Buzzy ([Hilary Swank]) and Duffy ([Shawn Hatosy]).

Meanwhile, Frank ([Patrick Swayze]) is searching for his wife Norma with escalating worry after learning of their daughter Cheri’s (Rachael Leigh Cook) tragic hit-and-run incident. When Officer Hannagan chases Jack into the same vicinity, emotions boil over leading to a confrontation that spirals into chaos.

The narrative then shifts focus to a group of teenagers — Tim ([Stark Sands]), Mark ([Colin Hanks]), and Eddie ([Ben Foster]) — who, engaged in reckless behavior, inadvertently cause Cheri’s death while joyriding in Mark’s van. Buzzy, working the late shift at a convenience store, finds herself embroiled in a plot with Duffy that spirals into a dangerous robbery scheme. Their ill-fated plans culminate in a series of unexpected events where guns go off and lives are irrevocably changed.

Finally, Cheri’s tumultuous plans unravel as she seeks to confront her realities involving her ambiguous relationships. With a tragic twist of fate, she meets her own end on that fateful night, as all paths intersect back at 11:14 p.m., leaving the characters grappling with the devastating ripple effects of their collective actions.
