Brian Godlock is an electrician who enjoys a fulfilling life in the fictional town of Las Palomas, Texas, together with his wife, Saya Godlock, and their young son, Taylor Michael. However, everything changes on Christmas Eve in 2021 when Brian and Taylor are outside using a new bicycle on their front lawn. Suddenly, they become victims of a drive-by shooting during a gang war, resulting in Taylor’s tragic death. Fueled by anger and grief, Brian sets out to hunt down the gangsters responsible, but he ends up being attacked by the gang leader, Playa, who shoots him in the throat and leaves him mortally wounded.
Though Brian survives, the damage to his vocal cords leaves him unable to speak properly. In the aftermath of this traumatic event, both Brian and Saya struggle under the weight of their loss. While Saya tries to provide emotional support during Brian’s recovery, he isolates himself further, consumed by a desire for vengeance against those who harmed his family. Unable to cope, Saya ultimately chooses to leave Brian as he becomes more determined to kill all those involved in Taylor’s death by Christmas Eve of the following year.
Throughout the year that follows, Brian immerses himself in physical training and self-defense, preparing for his quest for revenge. He even seeks out Detective Dennis Vassel, who had previously offered assistance regarding Taylor’s case, but instead uses this opportunity to gather intel on Playa’s gang. Ignoring attempts from Saya to reconnect and reassure him, Brian escalates his violent pursuit, ultimately abducting a gang member to extract information on their operations.
Brian then delivers the captive to Vassel’s home, leaving a chilling Christmas card outlining his intentions to eliminate Playa and his gang, along with a thumb drive containing damning evidence and the thug’s contributions. The night of Christmas Eve 2022, Brian takes matters into his own hands, systematically taking down members of Playa’s gang. His need for retribution intensifies when he steals a thug’s cell phone to send a video message of his own killing, intending to send a warning to Playa.
As the chaos unfolds, a bloody confrontation leads to a massive showdown where Brian finds himself at odds with Detective Vassel. Initially, they aim their weapons at each other but ultimately decide to unite forces against Playa. Yet, their alliance proves fragile when Playa’s drug-addicted girlfriend ambushes them, injuring both men. In a tense moment, Brian finds himself facing her in a standoff, where he hesitates to take her life. Unfortunately, this moment of mercy turns deadly when she attacks him with a hidden weapon. In a fierce struggle, Brian overcomes her and finally confronts Playa.
The ensuing shootout is fierce, and just as Playa prepares to deal the final blow to Brian, Detective Vassel intervenes, finishing off the gang leader. As they both lie on the ground, bleeding out and reflecting on their grim fate, Brian experiences visions of happier times spent with Taylor, including an imagined future where they both survive. Meanwhile, Saya comes across a heartfelt letter Brian had written, filled with apologies for his emotional distance and expressions of gratitude for her unwavering love. In a poignant moment, she carries the letter to Taylor’s grave, alongside the unopened Christmas present that Brian had gifted his son—a toy train set he had lovingly built around the grave, symbolizing their enduring bond despite the tragedy.
