Agata Buzek

Agata Bronisława Buzek (born 20 September 1976) is a Polish actress and former fashion model whose career spans more than two decades across European and American cinema. Raised in Pyskowice, a town in Gliwice County, she is the daughter of prominent politician Jerzy Buzek, former Prime Minister of Poland and President of the European Parliament, and Ludgarda Buzek. Early childhood was marked by a bout of poliomyelitis, which required treatment in Germany, but she recovered and later pursued studies at a theatre academy in Warsaw before moving to Paris to work as a runway model. Her multilingual background and exposure to both Eastern and Western European cultures have contributed to a distinctive screen presence that blends emotional depth with striking poise. Since making her screen debut in the Italian drama The Ballad of the Windshield Washers (1998), Buzek has built an eclectic filmography that includes the historical drama The Gateway of Europe (1999), the fantasy series The Hexer (2001‑2002), and Andrzej Wajda’s comedy The Revenge (2002). She earned her first Polish Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for the latter and subsequently received the Shooting Stars Award at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival for Reverse (2009), a role that also brought her a Polish Academy Award for Best Actress and a Gdynia Film Festival win. Internationally, she appeared alongside Jason Statham in Hummingbird (2013), starred in Claire Denis’s sci‑fi horror High Life (2018), and took leading parts in Netflix productions such as Erotica (2020) and Illusion (2022). Her performance in the comedy‑drama My Wonderful Life (2021) secured her second Polish Academy Award for Best Actress, confirming her status as one of Poland’s most versatile and celebrated performers. In recent years she has continued to expand her repertoire with roles in Dovbush (2023) and the action‑fantasy She Is Conann, while maintaining a commitment to both art‑house projects and mainstream productions.
