Thomas James Kenny, born July 13, 1962, is a celebrated American actor and comedian known worldwide for providing the voice to the titular character in SpongeBob SquarePants. Kenny has also contributed his voice to numerous other characters, including Heffer Wolfe in Rocko's Modern Life, the Ice King in Adventure Time, and the Narrator and Mayor in The Powerpuff Girls, among others. His live-action work includes the comedy variety shows The Edge and Mr. Show. As a seasoned voice artist, Kenny's achievements include two Daytime Emmy Awards and two Annie Awards.
Kenny's passion for voice acting started in his childhood, where he spent most of his time drawing and listening to record albums. He first got a taste of performance art when he attended an open-mic night with Bobcat Goldthwait, and they performed under monikers Tomcat and Bobcat. He later attended Bishop Grimes Junior/Senior High School, and after college, he performed stand-up comedy for eight years. Kenny's voice acting talent led to roles in Rocko's Modern Life, The Fairly OddParents, and Camp Lazlo. His versatility is evident as he has lent his voice to characters such as Dog in CatDog, Penguin in The Batman, and Squanchy on Rick and Morty.
In addition to these, he had a regular role in the Fox comedy series Sit Down, Shut Up, Adventure Time's Ice King and Magic Man, voiced Spyro the Dragon in the well-known video game series, and reprised his role as Ice King in the 2023 spinoff series Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake. His lifelong collaboration with SpongeBob's creator, Stephen Hillenburg, led to the birth of the hit series SpongeBob SquarePants, making Kenny a household name. Kenny's contributions to the series earned him an Annie Award and two Daytime Emmy Awards.
