Aggeliki Papoulia

Angeliki Papoulia, born in 1975, is an acclaimed Greek actress and theatre director, known for standout performances in celebrated films like Dogtooth, Alps, and The Lobster, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, as well as A Blast and The Miracle of the Sargasso Sea by Syllas Tzoumerkas. A testament to her talent and skill, she won the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Actress for her role in Dogtooth, an accolade she shared with Mary Tsoni. Born and raised in Athens, Greece, Angeliki showcased an early affinity for the performing arts, pursuing her passion at the Embros drama school. Post graduation, she worked with prominent Greek theatre directors Michail Marmarinos, Lefteris Voyatzis and Yannis Houvardas on a variety of performances, including National Anthem, School of Women, and Romeo and Juliet. In **2004**, Angeliki, alongside Christos Passalis and Yorgos Valais, established the blitz theatre group, where she directed, wrote, and acted in several performances. The group was acclaimed for their theatrical endeavors, with principles emphasizing the exchange of ideas and questioning societal expectations of the arts and theatre. Today, the group is recognized among the most celebrated Greek theatre ensembles. Angeliki began her film career with short films and a small role in the feature film Alexandreia by Maria Iliiou. Following that she starred in Yannis Economidis' debut film Matchbox, playing the role of Kiki. However, it was her association with Yorgos Lanthimos, beginning with Dogtooth in 2008, that brought her international recognition. She continued working with the director on films like Alps and The Lobster, receiving considerable praise for her courageous and raw performances. Angeliki has also been a jury member at international film festivals including the Locarno International Film Festival Pardi di domani and the Sarajevo International Film Festival Competiton Jury.
