What's After the Movie
Amy Manson is a Scottish actress born on 9 September 1985 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, the daughter of a family with a sister Ailsa and a brother James. From a young age she displayed a fascination with performance, attending the Saturday drama school Stage Coach before departing for London at seventeen to pursue formal training. She enrolled at the Central School of Speech and Drama, but left early to shoot her debut feature, the horror sequel Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud, in Romania, marking the start of a diverse on‑screen career. Manson quickly built a reputation for versatility, appearing in genre films such as Blood Monkey and the short Smile Emily, while also lending her voice to radio dramas including Lost in Plain Sight and The Summer Walking. On television she earned fan‑fare as Alice Guppy in the cult series Torchwood and as nurse Abby Evans in nine episodes of Casualty, demonstrating a capacity for both sci‑fi intrigue and classic medical drama. Her period‑piece credentials were solidified when she portrayed the 19th‑century Pre‑Raphaelite muse Lizzie Siddal in the BBC Two drama Desperate Romantics, a role that later intersected with fellow cast member Aidan Turner in the supernatural series Being Human where she played the vampire Daisy Hannigan‑Spiteri. Additional notable credits include Ginger Corrigan in Marple: The Pale Horse, Fleur Morgan in Outcasts, Leah in Misfits, and Emma “Whirly” Tyson in Young James Herriot. In 2024 she returned to the small screen as Rhona Moncrieffe in the BBC adaptation of Rebus. Her stage work was recognised with the Best Performance (Female) award at the 2008 Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland for her role in Six Characters in Search of an Author. Living in North London, Manson continues to balance screen and stage, contributing to both contemporary dramas and genre productions.
