Ana Torrent

**Ana Torrent Bertrán de Lis**, born 12 July 1966, is a critically acclaimed Spanish film actress. She emerged in the industry as a prominent child actress in cinematic classics such as _The Spirit of the Beehive_ (1973), _Cría cuervos_ (1976), _Elisa, vida mía_ (1977), and _The Nest_ (1980). Her performance in _Thesis_ (1996) was met with critical acclaim and resulted in a nomination for the Goya Award for Best Actress. Her career spans from her debut in 1973 up until the present time, featuring a variety of roles and performances in multiple film genres. Torrent was born into an upper-class family in Madrid and made her screen debut at the tender age of seven with the leading role in 'Ana' in _El espíritu de la colmena (The Spirit of the Beehive)_, directed by Víctor Erice. Post her debut, she continued to enjoy success in films as a child but only began to consider herself genuinely an actress in her late teens. Later in her career, in 1989, Torrent acted alongside Sharon Stone in the film _Blood and Sand_. Her performance in Alejandro Amenábar's film _Tesis (Thesis)_ in 1996 earned her numerous awards and nominations. Towards the end of the 90s, Torrent played a Basque nationalist in _Yoyes (2000)_, earning critical acclaim for her nuanced performance. In 2008, she worked with Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson in _The Other Boleyn Girl_. More recently, Torrent made a celebratory return to the Cannes Film Festival in 2023 with her role in the film _Close Your Eyes_ directed by Victor Erice.
