What's After the Movie
Asia Kate Kate Dillon is an American actor born on 15 November 1984 in Ithaca, New York. They began their artistic training early, completing the Meisner program at The Actor’s Workshop of Ithaca at age 16, making them the youngest ever admitted to the class. After graduating from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, Dillon took the title role of Rachel Corrie in the 2007 play My Name Is Rachel Corrie, launching a stage career that included work with Academy Award‑winning playwrights, a lead as Lucifer in The Mysteries, and a performance in The Tempest at the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, DC. Their transition to screen came with the role of white‑supremacist Brandy Epps in the Netflix series Orange Is the Black, marking one of the first openly non‑binary actors in a major television production. In 2017 they were cast as Taylor Mason on Showtime’s Billions, a hedge‑fund intern whose non‑binary identity was the first of its kind on mainstream North American television and earned a Critics’ Choice Television Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Dillon’s film work includes the role of the Adjudicator in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and a starring part in The Outside Story (2018). Beyond performance, they founded MIRROR/FIRE Productions, creating the piece US to explore racism and the Black Lives Matter movement, and released the EP Handsomehands in 2020 with proceeds supporting the Marsha P. Johnson Institute. Recognized by Queerty as one of the Pride50 in 2019, Dillon continues to advocate for LGBTQ+ visibility, using singular they pronouns and describing themselves as pansexual, while challenging industry gender categories by submitting for “actor” awards regardless of traditional gendered classifications.
