August Diehl

August Diehl is a prominent German actor who was born on 4th January 1976. He is world renowned for his impeccable portrayal of Gestapo major Dieter Hellstrom in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds (2009) and as Michael "Mike" Krause, Evelyn Salt's spouse, in the film Salt. His star performances do not just end there. Diehl has also led in The Counterfeiters (2007), The Young Karl Marx (2017), and Terrence Malick's A Hidden Life (2019). His acting prowess was recognized in 2000 when the European Film Promotion named him one of European film's Shooting Stars. In 2024, he enthralled audiences with his role in the fantasy-drama The Master and Margarita, where he played a devil-like character named Woland. His newest projects include The Disappearance, where he plays Josef Mengele, and the action movie, Control. Diehl's repertoire will soon expand with a role in the 2025 fantasy-drama The Ice Tower. Born in West Berlin into a family of artists - his father was an actor, his mother a costume designer, and his brother a composer - Diehl had a peripatetic childhood which saw him living in France, Hamburg, Vienna, and Düsseldorf, before becoming an acting student at Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch in Berlin at 18.
