Benito Martinez, born June 28, 1971, is an acclaimed American actor. He gained fame due to his memorable role as LAPD Captain David Aceveda in the hit FX police drama The Shield. Additionally, he is also known for his role as Luis Torres in Sons of Anarchy, playing Todd Denver in How to Get Away with Murder, and Sheriff Diaz in 13 Reasons Why. Martinez has also showcased his acting skills in films like My Family and Kill Your Darlings. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he attended the Hollywood High School Performing Arts Center with fellow future star Anthony Anderson. After high school, Martinez moved abroad to study at the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, an institute that has trained such luminaries as Kim Cattrall, Donald Sutherland, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Returning to the US after his studies, Martinez moved to Los Angeles, where he began his acting career. His diverse repertoire includes roles in movies like Saw, Million Dollar Baby, End Game, The Dry Land, and American Made. He displayed a unique range by playing three different characters in the crime drama television series American Crime between 2015 to 2017.
