David Hayman (born 9th February 1948) is a British film, television, and stage actor and director from Glasgow, Scotland with rich acting credits that span multiple decades. Remarkably, he transitioned from performing character roles to directing film and TV productions in the course of his career. Notable works among his acting credits include Sid and Nancy (1986), Hope and Glory (1987), Rob Roy (1995), The Jackal (1997), Trial & Retribution (1997-2009), Legionnaire (1998), Ordinary Decent Criminal (2000), Vertical Limit (2000), The Tailor of Panama (2001), Flood (2007), and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (2008) among many others.
Hayman was born and raised in Glasgow, where he initially worked in the shipyards as an apprentice electrician. Despite his family's lack of acting history, he took advice from a local amateur dramatics group, which eventually led him to enroll at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. He launched his acting career at the Citizens Theatre in the city, with notable roles such as Hamlet, the lead in the Beaumarchais directed play, 'The Marriage of Figaro', and Al Capone. With a successful acting career transition to a directing role, Hayman directed films and TV productions like 'Silent Scream (1990)', a study of convicts in Barlinnie Prison. He also directed 'The Hawk (1993)', starring Helen Mirren as a woman who begins to suspect her husband is a serial killer. In addition to his acting and directing career, Hayman is also known for his charity work, being the current Head of Operations of the humanitarian charity Spirit Aid, which he founded in 2001.
