Philip Davis Guggenheim, known as Davis Guggenheim, is a highly acclaimed American screenwriter, director, and producer. His career in film and television started in the 1990s. He has worked on a variety of successful projects, including NYPD Blue, ER, 24, and Alias. Guggenheim is notably recognized for his work in documentary films. Three of his documentaries, namely, An Inconvenient Truth, It Might Get Loud, and Waiting for 'Superman', rank among the top 100 highest-grossing documentaries of all time. His production of An Inconvenient Truth, featuring former U.S. Vice President Al Gore's global warming insights, even won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film. He further gained attention for his work on Barack Obama's biographical film during the 2008 Democratic National Convention and subsequent infomercial. His work is characterized by high standards of cinematography. More recent projects include Inside Bill's Brain: Decoding Bill Gates, a documentary miniseries exploring the life and pursuits of Bill Gates.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Guggenheim is the son of filmmaker Charles Guggenheim. He completed his education from Brown University before embarking on his successful career. He married actress Elisabeth Shue in 1994, with whom he has three children. In 2020, he co-founded the production company Concordia Studio. Most recently, he directed the documentary Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie, released on Apple TV+ in 2023. This biopic on Michael J. Fox received seven Emmy Nominations, further establishing Guggenheim's standing as one of the most influential filmmakers of his generation.
