Diedrich Bader

Karl Diedrich Bader was born on December 24, 1966 in Alexandria, Virginia, the son of sculptor Gretta Bader (née Margaret Marie Lange) and foundation executive William B. Bader, a noted political activist. His great‑grandfather, Edward L. Bader, once served as mayor of Atlantic City, giving the family a legacy of public service. Of German and Scottish descent, Bader spent his earliest years in Paris before returning to the United States, where he completed his secondary education at T.C. Williams High School. He later pursued formal training at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, laying the foundation for a versatile career that would span live‑action comedy, drama, and voice‑over work. Early television appearances included guest spots on The Fresh Prince of Bel‑Air, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Cheers, establishing him as a reliable character actor by the early 1990s.

From 1995 onward Bader became a household name as Oswald on The Drew Carey Show, while his film work featured memorable turns in The Beverly Hillbillies (1993), Office Space (1999) as Lawrence, and the cult classic Napoleon Dynamite (2004) as Rex. His reputation as a voice‑artist is equally impressive, with iconic roles such as Hoss Delgado in The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Zeta in The Zeta Project, and the titular Bruce Wayne / Batman in Batman: The Brave and the Bold (2008‑2011). Bader has also voiced characters in Ice Age, The Simpsons, BoJack Horseman, and Green Lantern: The Animated Series. Married to actress Dulcy Rogers since 1997, the couple raise two children. Politically active, he supported Libertarian Gary Johnson in 2016, later endorsing Joe Biden in 2020 and Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024.
