Dolores Fonzi was born Dolores María Fonzi on 19 July 1978 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and spent her formative years in the suburban town of Adrogué after her parents' separation, where she was raised alongside her brothers Tomás and Diego. Raised in a culturally rich environment, she discovered a passion for performance early on and enrolled at the renowned acting school of Carlos Gandolfo, where she honed the craft that would launch her career. At just seventeen, she made her television debut in the series La nena (1996), and two years later caught the eye of Cris Morena, securing the role of Clara Vázquez in the wildly popular teen drama Verano del ’98. This early exposure not only introduced her to a national audience but also showcased her versatility, as she deftly portrayed a compelling antagonist that earned her both popularity and critical notice. Her dedication earned her a Silver Condor nomination for Best Actress for El campo and solidified her reputation as one of the most compelling Argentine actresses of her generation. In 2015 she headlined Paulina, a daring remake that premiered at Cannes and won her the Havana Star Prize for Best Actress, further confirming her status on the international stage. In addition to acting, she ventured into directing with the 2023 feature Blondi, illustrating her growing artistic ambition. Personal life intersected with her professional world; from 2008 to 2014 she shared a partnership with fellow actor Gael García Bernal, with whom she has two children born in 2009 and 2011, and later began a relationship with filmmaker Santiago Mitre after meeting on the set of Paulina.
