Eduard Fernández

Eduardo Fernández Serrano, known professionally as Eduard Fernández, is a celebrated Spanish screen and stage actor whose career spans over three decades. Born on 25 August 1964 in Barcelona, he trained as a mime artist at the Institut del Teatre, where he honed his physical storytelling skills and performed on the streets of Catalonia before transitioning to theatre companies such as Els Joglars. His early work in television and stage laid a solid foundation for his film debut at the age of thirty with Souvenir (1994), and he quickly gained critical attention with his breakthrough role in the thriller Washington Wolves (1999), earning a Goya nomination for Best New Actor. Fernández's performance as Santos Vella in Fausto 5.0 (2001) secured his first Goya Award for Best Actor, cementing his reputation for portraying complex, often morally ambiguous characters with intense charisma. He continued to explore diverse roles, from the corrupt spy Francisco Paesa in Alberto Rodríguez’s Smoke & Mirrors (2016), which won him the Silver Shell at San Sebastián, to the historical figure Millán Astray in While at War (2019), garnering a Goya for Best Supporting Actor. In recent years he has collaborated with his daughter Greta Fernández in A Thief's Daughter, and portrayed real‑life heroes such as Òscar Camps in Mediterraneo: The Law of the Sea (2021) and psychiatric director Samuel Alvar in God's Crooked Lines (2022). The year 2024 marked a high point with dual leading performances: as Manolo Vital in The 47 and as impostor Enric Marco in Marco, the Invented Truth, earning both the Gaudí and the Goya Awards for Best Leading Actor, as well as the national Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts. Recognized for his artistic versatility and dedication, Fernández received Spain’s National Cinematography Prize in 2025, honoring a career that blends theatrical rigor, cinematic excellence, and a commitment to challenging roles.
