He launched into the film industry with his debut in the drama Tex (1982) and swiftly became associated with the notorious Brat Pack, a group of young actors frequently cast in coming-of-age films of the 1980s. Estevez's standout performances included roles in The Outsiders (1983), The Breakfast Club (1985), St. Elmo's Fire (1985), and the cult science fiction/comedy Repo Man (1984).
