FKA Twigs (born Tahliah Debrett Barnett on 16 January 1988) is an English singer, songwriter, record producer and dancer whose career has spanned over a decade and a half, earning her a reputation as one of the most innovative artists of her generation. Raised in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, she began studying opera and ballet as a child and later moved to South London to train at the BRIT School, where she transitioned from dance to music, self‑releasing her debut EP1 in 2012 and quickly attracting critical attention for her ethereal, genre‑bending sound that blends avant‑pop, electronic, R&B, trip hop and industrial textures. Her breakthrough came with the 2014 album LP1, a Mercury Prize‑nominated work that placed on both UK and US charts and showcased her distinctive soprano voice, intricate production, and striking visual aesthetics, cementing her status as a visionary performer who directs her own music videos and stage productions.
