Horst Frank

Horst Frank (born 28 May 1929 in Lübeck, Germany) was a prolific German film actor whose career spanned more than four decades. He debuted in 1955 and quickly became a recognizable face in both domestic productions and international co‑productions, especially within the Spaghetti Western and Euro‑crime genres. Over the course of his career Frank appeared in more than one hundred films, ranging from war dramas such as Der Stern von Afrika (1957) to gritty thrillers like The Cat o' Nine Tails (1971) where he delivered a chilling performance as Dr. Braun. His versatility allowed him to embody aristocratic villains, cold‑hearted mercenaries, and occasionally sympathetic supporting characters, earning him a reputation as a dependable character actor who could infuse even minor roles with memorable intensity. Notably, Frank often collaborated with directors such as Sergio Grieco and Lucio Fulci, contributing to the cult status of several 1960s and 1970s genre classics, and his distinctively stern visage made him a favorite in the burgeoning Euro‑dubbed market of the time.
