Ian Hendry

Ian Mackendrick Hendry (13 January 1931 – 24 December 1984) was a talented English actor known for his work on several popular British TV series during the 1960s and 1970s such as The Avengers and The Lotus Eaters. He also held significant roles in films such as The Hill (1965), Repulsion (1965), Get Carter (1971), and Theatre of Blood (1973). Hendry's introduction to the world of acting came through his interest in sports and amateur dramatics at Culford School. His professional acting career launched in 1955, marking the start of a successful journey in repertory at the Hornchurch Theatre. As his career grew, he won parts in films including Up in the World (1956), The Secret Place (1957), and Room at the Top (1959).

In the 1960s, he played lead roles in series like The Informer. In the early 1970s, he starred in several TV series and later guest-starred in various series including The Persuaders! He appeared in widely recognized films like Get Carter (1971) for which he was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor. During the last years of his life, he worked in the crime series Jemima Shore Investigates and featured in the soap opera Brookside. His final public appearance was as a guest on an episode of This is Your Life that profiled his former Avengers co-star Patrick Macnee.
