Jack Gore

John Henry Gore, commonly known as Jack Gore (16 June 1899 – 18 March 1971), was a celebrated Welsh international rugby player. He was a versatile performer, showcasing his skills both in rugby union and rugby league. Born in Blaina, Monmouthshire, Wales, Gore first shone in the world of rugby through the lower level club Blaina. His national team debut came in 1924 during the Five Nations Championship. Though ending on the losing side, Gore was just starting to create a name for himself. A year later, he played his final game for Wales and made the decisive move to switch codes, signing up with Salford for a professional rugby league career.

At Salford, Gore swiftly shifted to the position of loose forward to much acclaim. While serving as the captain, he represented both Wales and England. His exceptional skillset made him an irreplaceable asset for any team, earning a robust reputation as one of the greatest Forwards Wales had ever produced. His time at Salford saw him make 125 appearances between 1925 and 1928, scoring 29 tries. After Salford stint, he transferred to Wigan Highfield during the close season and continued to impress on the field. After his active playing career, Gore returned to his birth town, running a public house. He maintained his connection to rugby, reportedly spotting and nurturing talented players including the illustrious Dai Watkins.
