James Gallanders

James Gallanders (born February 9, 1970 in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada) is a versatile Canadian actor whose career spans more than two decades of film, television and voice work. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from York University's Faculty of Fine Arts, Gallanders made his screen debut in the beloved series Due South in 1996, quickly establishing himself as a reliable character actor. He broke into feature films with a supporting role in Murder at 1600 and followed that year with three releases: the indie drama Reluctant Angel, the thriller Babyface, and the cult horror sequel Bride of Chucky opposite Jennifer Tilly. Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s he continued to build a diverse résumé, appearing in Agnieszka Holland’s The Third Miracle alongside Ed Harris and Anne Heche, and portraying Greg Sommers in the direct‑to‑video sequel The Skulls II. His vocal talents were showcased in the critically acclaimed horror franchise Saw II (2005), and he delivered a poignant performance as Major Brent Beardsly in Shake Hands with the Devil (2007), a film that earned multiple awards for its harrowing depiction of the Rwandan genocide. Gallanders is equally prolific on television, where he has guest‑starred in a range of genre shows such as Millennium, La Femme Nikita, Mutant X, and the groundbreaking North‑American version of Queer as Folk. He held a recurring role as Detective Michael Croft on CTV’s short‑lived soap opera The City from 1999 to 2000, and later contributed to series including Kevin Hill and the Emmy‑winning mini‑series The Kennedys. In addition to his on‑screen work, he remains active in theatre and voice projects, highlighting his commitment to the craft. On a personal note, Gallanders married fellow actress Stacie Mistysyn on August 29, 2009, and the couple has kept their private life out of the spotlight. His ongoing presence in both Canadian and international productions underscores a career marked by consistent dedication, adaptability, and a steady accumulation of respected credits.
