Jan Decleir

Born as Jan Amanda Gustaaf Decleir on 14 February 1946, Jan Decleir is a distinguished Belgian movie and stage actor renowned for his roles in various critically acclaimed productions. With a career establishing his mark with his role in Fons Rademakers's Mira in 1971, he has made appearances in numerous Flemish and Dutch films and TV shows. His performance at the International New Scene for Dario Fo's play Mistero Buffo entrenched his reputation in theatre. Internationally, he gained recognition through the TV series Sil de strandjutter in 1976. He began gaining momentum in Hollywood with roles in Oscar-winning movies including Karakter and Antonia. He was also instrumental in establishing Belgium's portrayal of Sinterklaas from 1993 until 2019.

In 2003, Decleir was applauded for his role in the thriller The Memory of a Killer (The Alzheimer Case), leading to talks of a Hollywood remake. For several years, he also led the Studio Herman Teirnlick, inviting actors from various theater companies to teach. Decleir has been married to Brechtje Louwaard since 1 April 2006 and they share 3 children. Decleir continues participating actively in the film industry, contributing in more than a hundred Belgian, Dutch, French, and German productions.
