Joe Keery

Joseph David Keery, professionally known as Djo, is an American actor and musician born on April 24, 1992. He rose to fame through his role as Steve Harrington in the science fiction series Stranger Things, a role he has maintained since 2016. In addition to TV, Keery also showcased his acting talents in films, such as the comedy film Free Guy in 2021 and in the fifth season of the crime drama series Fargo in 2023-2024. As a musician, Keery was a member of the psychedelic rock band Post Animal. After leaving the band, he embarked on a solo career, prioritizing indie rock and psychedelic rock genres. His solo career saw successes such as the studio albums Twenty Twenty in 2019 and Decide in 2022. His music career peaked when his song 'End of Beginning' from the Decide album became viral on TikTok in 2024, marking his entry into the Billboard Hot 100. Keery, the second of five children, was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts. He attended River Valley Charter School and Newburyport High School in his earlier years, furthering his education in The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago, graduating in 2014 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting. Before achieving mainstream success in Stranger Things, Keery had roles in commercials and minor roles in TV-shows like Empire and Chicago Fire. He also had a significant role in Henry Gamble's Birthday Party, marking his first appearance in a full-length film. Post Stranger Things, Keery has acted in numerous independent movies and starred alongside Liam Neeson in the sci-fi action film Cold Storage. In the music world, dabbled in as part of Post Animal, releasing a debut album in October 2015. He continued music as a solo artist after leaving the band, releasing music under the name Djo.
