What's After the Movie
Julia Pott (born 13 June 1985) is a British animator, illustrator, screenwriter, producer, and voice actress best known for creating the whimsical series Summer Camp Island for Cartoon Network. From a childhood split between England and the Hamptons, where her American mother raised her, Pott declared at age six that she wanted to be a cartoonist, a goal that propelled her through a rigorous art education. She earned a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Chelsea College of Arts in 2004, followed by a BA (Hons) in Animation and Illustration from Kingston University in 2007, where her short My First Crush amassed nearly 1.5 million YouTube views and attracted industry attention. After university she contributed animated visuals for musical acts such as The Decemberists and Bat for Lashes, then pursued an MA in animation at the Royal College of Art, graduating with honors in 2011 after directing the acclaimed shorts Howard (2010) and Belly (2011). Relocating first to Brooklyn and later to Los Angeles, Pott’s work entered the festival circuit, competing at Sundance and SXSW, and she honed her writing skills on the beloved series Adventure Time. The success of her Sundance short Summer Camp Island paved the way for the full series, which premiered in 2018, featuring the adventures of an elephant named Oscar and his hedgehog companion at a magical camp; the show later migrated to Max for international audiences. In addition to television, Pott has explored collaborations with fashion studio Hornet, expressing a desire to see her animated aesthetic influence textiles and design. On May 13 2023, she married Israeli‑American actor Raviv Ullman, and the couple welcomed their first child shortly thereafter, marking a new personal chapter alongside her ongoing creative pursuits.
