What's After the Movie
Levente Molnár (born 10 March 1976) is a Hungarian‑Romanian actor whose career spans stage, screen, and pedagogy. His early artistic formation began in 1997 at the Gheorgheni‑based Figura Studio, where he first encountered professional performance. From 1998 to 2002 he pursued formal training at the Faculty of Arts of Babeș‑Bolyai University, studying acting under the guidance of András Hatházi in the Theatre Arts Department. After graduating, he joined the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj and simultaneously took on a teaching role at his alma mater, shaping a new generation of performers while continuously expanding his own repertoire.
Molnár’s theatrical work is remarkably diverse, ranging from classical pieces such as Shakespeare’s A Winter’s Tale and Hamlet to contemporary Hungarian dramas and experimental movement theatre projects with choreographer Melinda Jakab at the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy. He has performed in productions like Szomory Dezső: Május and Henrik Ibsen: Peer Gynt, displaying a command of both lyrical and gritty characters. On screen, his most internationally recognized role is Abraham in László Nemes’s Oscar‑winning film Son of Saul, a performance that contributed to the film’s critical acclaim and earned him a Best Supporting Actor award from the Hungarian Film Critics Association in 2020. His filmography also includes titles such as Grey Nobodies (István Kovács), Tabula Rasa (Sándor Csoma), Genezis (Árpád Bogdán), and Captives (Kristóf Deák). Fluent in Hungarian and Romanian, with advanced English and intermediate German, Molnár bridges cultural contexts and remains an active member of the European Film Academy, regularly participating in international workshops that explore dance, movement, and theatrical innovation.
