Malachi Kirby

Malachi Kirby is a British actor and writer who gained prominence through notable roles in the 2016 Roots remake and the Black Mirror episode "Men Against Fire". Born and raised in Battersea, Kirby's acting talent was nurtured from a young age when he discovered the world of acting in year nine during a course at Battersea Arts Centre. He later delved deeper into his passion by studying at Richmond upon Thames College and Identity School of Acting in 2007. Kirby's career was initiated in theatre, where he expresses himself as an actor "at heart". His exceptional performance in a production of Mogadishu led him to get shortlisted for the Outstanding Newcomer at the 2011 Evening Standard Theatre Awards.

Over the years, Kirby has demonstrated his versatility by starring in a variety of television shows and films. He earned the title of Screen International Star of Tomorrow in 2013. In 2016 Kirby gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Kunta Kinte in the American miniseries Roots. His performance in the anthology series Black Mirror earned him acclaim and propelled his career further. Kirby landed the role of Darcus Howe in Steve McQueen's Small Axe anthology in 2020, which marked the first time he portrayed an explicitly Caribbean character. This performance led him to win the 2021 British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actor. He is now set to star in the Amazon Prime adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys.
