What's After the Movie
Martin John Kemp, born on 10th October 1961, is a diverse English talent with various occupations such as musician, actor, and director. Best known for his role as the bassist in the new wave band Spandau Ballet and his part as Steve Owen in EastEnders, his popularity in the entertainment industry took flight. Kemp is also recognized for being the younger brother of Gary Kemp, who shares the stage with him in Spandau Ballet and has also ventured into acting. Martin impressively finished third place in the tenth series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2012 and in 2017 he appeared as a judge on the BBC series Let It Shine. His earlier life was filled with practicing his skills, having been born and brought up in Islington, North London. He got a taste of drama from a very young age at the Anna Scher Theatre drama club. His career took a turning point when Steve Dagger, the manager of his brother Gary's band, suggested him to replace the band's bass-player; effectively initiating his journey with Spandau Ballet. Despite disputes over royalties leading to their split in the early 1990s, the band made a comeback in 2009. Apart from his phenomenal music career, Kemp made his mark in the film industry as well, having starred in the British film The Krays, several Hollywood films, British soap opera EastEnders, and various other television dramas. A notable achievement was his role as villain Steve Owen in EastEnders, in which he clinched multiple awards for his acting prowess. Martin Kemp's direct involvement with the entertainment industry has remained undiminished, with him participating in reality shows, directing feature films, hosting television shows, and even releasing an album with his wife, Shirlie Kemp.
