Mary Ellen Trainor (July 8, 1952 – May 20, 2015) was a renowned American character actress known for a variety of roles, including the LAPD psychiatrist Dr. Stephanie Woods in the Lethal Weapon films, newscaster Gail Wallens in Die Hard and Ricochet, and Irene Walsh in The Goonies. She demonstrated her wide acting range in various other notable films such as Romancing the Stone, The Monster Squad, Death Becomes Her, Forrest Gump, and Freaky Friday (2003). Trainor pursued her studies in broadcast journalism at San Diego State University. Notably, she started her career in radio stations KSDO and KCBS. Her debut in television was the 1983 Cheers episode 'Father Knows Last', with her big-screen debut following her the next year in Romancing the Stone. Trainor also had recurring television roles such as Judy Lewis in Parker Lewis Can't Lose, Eve Lukens in Relativity, and Diane Evans in Roswell. Trainor's distinctive work led her to appear in three National Film Registry selected films: The Goonies, Die Hard and Forrest Gump.
