What's After the Movie
**Matthew Charles Labyorteaux** was born on **December 8, 1966** in *Los Angeles, California* and was adopted by interior designer‑talent agent Ronald Labyorteaux and actress Frances Marshall. Although he entered the world with a congenital heart defect and was mistakenly labeled autistic during his early years, diligent care and dietary adjustments helped him overcome those challenges, and he began walking at three and speaking at five. Discovered at age seven while accompanying his older brother Patrick to a casting call, Matthew quickly moved from commercial work to his first dramatic film role in John Cassavetes’ *A Woman Under the Influence*, portraying one of the children of Peter Falk and Gena Rowlands. His early television appearances included guest spots on *The Rookies*, *The Bob Newhart Show* and *Lou Grant*, establishing him as a reliable child actor in the 1970s.
From 1978 to 1983, Labyorteaux became a household name by playing **Albert Ingalls** on the beloved series *Little House on the Prairie*, a role that endeared him to a generation of viewers. He later headlined short‑lived series such as *The Red Hand Gang* and *Whiz Kids*, and delivered a memorable performance as Paul Conway in Wes Craven’s 1986 sci‑fi horror film *Deadly Friend*. In the 2000s he reinvented himself as a voice talent, most notably as **Jaden Yuki** and **The Supreme King** in the anime *Yu‑Gi‑Oh! GX*. Beyond acting, Matthew is an avid video‑game competitor, placing tenth in a 1981 Centipede world championship and winning a national Pac‑Man tournament in 1982. He co‑founded the Youth Rescue Fund with his brother in 1992, supporting at‑risk youth across the United States. In July 2020 he married Leslie Labyorteaux, becoming stepfather to her two children, and continues to work in voice‑over, ADR and charitable endeavors.
