Melvil Matthias Julien Poupaud (born 26 January 1973) is a highly skilled French actor, writer, and director who has been making significant contributions to the cinema since 1983. His debut was at a very young age of 10 in Raúl Ruiz's 'City of Pirates' which set the pace for a prosperous career. Notably, he worked in nine more of Ruiz's films such as 'The Insomniac on the Bridge', 'Treasure Island', 'Genealogies of a Crime', 'Time Regained' and 'Love Torn in a Dream'. Poupaud's career is marked by his exceptional performances in Jacques Doillon's 'The 15 Year Old Girl' and Laurence Ferreira Barbosa's 'Normal People Are Nothing Exceptional', for which he received two nominations for the César Award for Most Promising Actor.

Beyond his acting credentials, he has worked in François Ozon's 'Time to Leave' and co-starred with Parker Posey in Zoe Cassavetes' 'Broken English'. He also showcased his talent in Eric Rohmer's 'A Summer's Tale', Arnaud Desplechin's 'A Christmas Tale', and François Ozon's 'The Refuge'. His work on Xavier Dolan's 'Laurence Anyways' alongside Suzanne Clément garnered great attention. Melvil was previously married to writer Georgina Tacou with whom he has a daughter.
