Nadia Litz

Nadia Litz (born December 26, 1976) is a Canadian actress and director whose career spans independent cinema, television, and short‑form storytelling. Raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, she discovered a fascination with film at the tender age of six, a passion that propelled her to Toronto at seventeen to study at York University before leaving to star in Jeremy Podeswa’s critically acclaimed feature The Five Senses. Although she briefly returned to York for film studies, Litz quickly established herself as a versatile performer, appearing in popular Canadian series such as Due South and Wind at My Back in the late 1990s, and securing the title role in the short film Evelyn: The Cutest Evil Dead Girl (2002). Her filmography continued to expand with notable credits including Rhinoceros Eyes (2003), Monkey Warfare (2006)—for which she earned a Vancouver Critics Award—and You Are Here (2011), demonstrating a consistent commitment to projects she found artistically compelling even when financial compensation was modest. In addition to acting, Litz has earned recognition from Maclean’s magazine as one of ‘25 People Under 25 To Watch’ and received a Gemini Award nomination for her work in the miniseries After the Harvest. Parallel to her on‑screen work, she cultivated a strong behind‑the‑camera voice, writing, directing, shooting, and editing her first Super‑8 short Remembering The Only Time I Tried To Stop My Heart From Failing (and Failed) during her university years. Her dedication to craft led her to the prestigious Berlinale Talent Campus in 2009, where she studied under Janusz Kamiński and Tilda Swinton, and later to a Director‑in‑Residence position at the Canadian Film Center, producing the award‑winning short How To Rid Your Lover Of A Negative Emotion Caused By You! which premiered at TIFF 2010. Most recently, Litz directed the 2016 feature The People Garden, starring Dree Hemingway, Pamela Anderson, and François Arnaud, cementing her reputation as a dynamic creator who bridges acting and directing within Canada’s vibrant film landscape.
