Martin Patterson Hingle, known popularly as Pat Hingle, (July 19, 1924 – January 3, 2009) was a renowned American character actor with a vast repertoire. Hingle's journey began with a stage performance and quickly transitioned into acting for television shows and feature films. His first film was On the Waterfront in 1954, a stepping stone to his illustrious career. Often cast in stiff authority figures, his portfolio included popular films such as the Batman film franchise from 1989 to 1997.

Hingle's early life was spent in Miami, Florida. He endured challenges and faced adversities head-on, always emerging stronger. Hingle served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. His career break came when he became a member of the Actors Studio leading to his Broadway debut, End as a Man. Earning rave reviews for his acting prowess, he was seriously injured in an elevator accident which cost him a significant film role. His perseverance led him to recovery and he continued to enthrall audiences on screens big and small.
