Peter Bull

Peter Cecil Bull, DSC (21 March 1912 – 20 May 1984) was a British actor who graced various supporting roles in films including The African Queen, Tom Jones, and Dr. Strangelove. He was the fourth and youngest son of William Bull, later Sir William Bull, 1st Baronet, and a Member of Parliament for Hammersmith. Born and educated in London, Bull's first professional stage appearance was in If I Were You at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 1933. Bull also served in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War, where he achieved the rank of lieutenant commander and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. Bull was a close friend of renowned actor Alec Guinness, whom he met during his military training. Post-war, Bull returned to acting and worked in both film and theater. His portrayal of Alexi de Sadesky, the Soviet Ambassador, in Dr. Strangelove is one of his acclaimed roles. Apart from acting, Bull also owned a zodiac-themed shop in Notting Hill Gate, and was an avid collector of teddy bears, publishing several books on the subject. He also authored a non-fiction book about his WW II experiences and several memoirs. Bull passed away from a heart attack in London on 20 May 1984.
