What's After the Movie
**Peter Macintosh Firth**, born on 27 October 1953, is an acclaimed English actor best known for his role as Sir Harry Pearce in the BBC One programme *Spooks*. He holds the distinction of being the only actor to appear in every episode of the programme's ten-series lifespan. Firth has demonstrated his acting prowess across numerous television and film performances, most notably as Alan Strang in *Equus* (1977), for which he earned a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination. His career kicked off in 1969 when he starred in the first series of *The Flaxton Boys* and then the following year in *Here Come the Double Deckers*. One notable role was when he starred in the stage version of Peter Shaffer's play *Equus* in July 1973 at Laurence Olivier's National Theatre. He replicated his role in the Broadway production, receiving a Tony Award nomination for his performance as Alan Strang. Firth's film roles are varied, having appeared in *The Picture of Dorian Gray* (1976), *Roman Polanski's Tess* (1979), *The Hunt for Red October* (1990) and *Amistad* (1997) among others. He continues to appear in television productions with notable credits in high-profile dramas and has also lent his voice as a narrator of audiobooks. On 17 July 2009, he was awarded an honorary degree by the University of Bradford as a Doctor of Letters for his services to acting. In his personal life, Firth dated Alexandra Pigg, his co-star from *Letter to Brezhnev*, and they married in 2017.
