Rachel Matthews

Rachel Matthews is an American actress, highly recognized for her spectacular performance in the films 'Happy Death Day' and its sequel, 'Happy Death Day 2U'. Born in 1993 in Los Angeles, California, she is the eldest daughter of actress Leslie Landon and Brian Matthews. She developed an interest in acting from a young age, drawn to classic Shirley Temple movies, which led her pursuit of voice and tap classes, and joining a local theater program when she was just 10 years old. Her fervor for the stage was relentless, resulting in her studying acting at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts. It was there she formed lasting friendships with Camila Mendes, who later became her roommate, and musician Maggie Rogers. Matthews underwent her film debut in 2017, featuring in 'Happy Death Day', which was directed by her own uncle, Christopher Landon. She reprised her role in the sequel 'Happy Death Day 2U' in 2019, captivating audiences with her performance as sorority house president Danielle Bouseman. In the same year, she scored the role as the villainous thief Magpie in the well-acclaimed TV series 'Batwoman'. Additionally, Matthews had a minor role in the Hulu series 'Looking for Alaska' and gave voice to a character in 'Frozen II'. In 2020, she positively tested for COVID-19 amidst the pandemic in the US. By 2024, Matthews had co-founded the production company Honor Role with Camila Mendes.
