Rodrigo de la Serna (born Lionel Rodrigo de la Serna on 18 April 1976 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a celebrated Argentine actor whose career spans over three decades of film, television, and theatre. He began appearing on screen in the mid‑1990s, with early roles in independent features such as Same Love, Same Rain and Nuts for Love, which helped him develop a reputation for nuanced, emotionally resonant performances. His breakthrough came in 2000 with the cult‑classic Canal 7 series Okupas, where he portrayed Ricardo Riganti, a part that remains a touchstone of Argentine television history. In 2004 he achieved international recognition by starring as Alberto Granado in The Motorcycle Diaries, a role that earned him a Silver Condor award for best actor, an Independent Spirit Award for Best Debut Performance, and a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Over the subsequent years de la Serna consolidated his status with a string of acclaimed Argentine TV productions, including El Puntero, Tiempos Compulsivos, Sol Negro and Contra las cuerdas, garnering multiple Martín Fierro Awards. His film work diversified with historical epics such as Revolución: El Cruce de los Andes and the biographical Italian picture Chiamatemi Francesco about Pope Francis, while his comedic timing shone in the 2018 Netflix film Yucatán. The actor’s global profile surged again in 2019 when he joined the Netflix phenomenon Money Heist as the charismatic Palermo, a role he reprised in the series’ fourth part. Parallel to his screen career, de la Serna has excelled on stage, winning a Premio Florencio for Lluvia Constante and starring in El Farmer at Teatro La Comedia in 2019. He also channels his artistic energy into music as a member of the group El Yotivenco, formed in 2005. Personally, he shared a long‑term partnership with actress Érica Rivas from 1999 to 2010, with whom he has one child, and later with journalist Ludmila Romero from 2016 to 2021, fathering two additional children.
