Ryo Ishibashi, born Hideki Ishibashi on July 20, 1956 in Kurume, Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan, is a seminal figure in both Japanese cinema and rock music. Emerging in the late 1970s as the front‑man of the influential band ARB (Alexander Ragtime Band), he helped shape Japan’s punk‑rock scene, releasing over a dozen albums before the group’s initial breakup in 1990 and later reviving it with the 1998 album Real Life. His transition to acting began in 1986 with the cult film A‑Homansu, where ARB’s single “After 45” served as the theme, and he rapidly became known for his gritty, magnetic screen presence. Over the decades, Ishibashi has built a diverse filmography that ranges from yakuza dramas such as Another Lonely Hitman—which earned him Best Actor at the 5th Japan Film Professional Awards—to internationally acclaimed horror works like Audition and Suicide Club.
