Scott Adsit

Scott Adsit is an American actor, comedian, and writer whose career spans over three decades of improvisational theater, television, film, and animation. Born on November 26, 1965 in Northbrook, Illinois, he grew up as the son of Genevieve "Genny" (née Butz) and Andrew Scott Adsit, a real‑estate attorney, and displayed a penchant for humor early on, describing himself as a "bit of a class clown" at Glenbrook North High School. After a brief stint at DePauw University he transferred to Columbia College Chicago, where mentor Sheldon Patinkin urged him to join the renowned improv troupe The Second City, a decision that would define his professional path. He entered Second City in 1987, earned a place on the mainstage in 1994, and won the Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Actor in a Comedy for his work in the revues Piñata Full of Bees and Paradigm Lost. His partnership with fellow Second City alumni led to collaborations with Adam McKay, Tina Fey, and Kevin Dorff, and he co‑wrote dialogue for the Williams' Medieval Madness pinball machine, showcasing his versatile comedic voice.

From the late 1990s onward, Adsit transitioned to television and film, landing a memorable role as Pete Hornberger on NBC's 30 Rock, a performance that contributed to the show's Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series in 2008. He co‑created and voiced characters on the Adult Swim stop‑motion series Moral Orel (2005‑2008) and later Mary Shelley's Frankenhole (2010‑2012), earning an Annie Award nomination for his portrayal of Clay Puppington. In 2014 he provided the gentle, robotic voice of Baymax in Disney’s Big Hero 6, a role he reprised in subsequent series. Beyond screen work, Adsit remains active in live improv, teaching at I.O. West and the Upright Citizens Brigade, and continues to contribute to podcasts, video games, and guest appearances, cementing his reputation as a dynamic, multi‑talented entertainer.
