Sean Gilder

Sean Brian Gilder is an English stage, film and screen actor and playwright born on 1st March 1964, in Brampton, Cumberland, England. Gilder has remained active in the industry from 1989, with a wide-ranging portfolio that highlights his versatility and dedication to the craft of acting. He is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Styles on Hornblower and Paddy Maguire on Shameless from 2005 to 2010, where his performance truly made a strong impression on viewers. He has also appeared in highly-acclaimed productions such as Doctor Who (as the Sycorax Leader), New Tricks, Gangs of New York, and the 2004 film, King Arthur. In Mike Bassett: England Manager he switched gears to portray one of the journalists, and in 2008, he surprised viewers with a dual role as Paddy's gay twin brother Noel in Shameless. His most recent appearance, in 2017, was in the third series of the BBC drama Poldark, as Tholly Tregirls. He studied at Queen Mary, University of London, earning a BA (Hons) in Modern History and Third World Studies, and honed his acting skills at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.
