Steven Allan Spielberg is an American film director, producer and screenwriter, widely regarded as one of the most esteemed figures in cinematic history. Born on December 18, 1946, Spielberg is considered a pioneer of the New Hollywood era and has been creating influential and commercially successful films for over four decades. His vast range of work includes some of the highest-grossing films of all time including E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Jaws (1975), Jurassic Park (1993), and the Indiana Jones series.

Spielberg's films often explore themes of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances and have won him numerous awards and critical acclaim. Over the course of his career, he has been awarded three Academy Awards, among many others, and in 1995 he received the AFI Life Achievement Award. In 2001, Spielberg received an honorary knighthood, KBE, from Queen Elizabeth II for his services to the British film industry. Despite his notable contributions and commercial success, critics have sometimes accused his films of being overly sentimental or conventional.
