Tara Fitzgerald

Tara Anne Cassandra Fitzgerald, an English actress born on 18 September 1967, has made her mark in feature films, television, radio and stage performances. Winning the New York Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in 1995 as Ophelia in Hamlet, and the Best Actress Award at The Reims International Television Festival in 1999, her credibility in the field of acting is evident. Fitzgerald is known for her role as Lady Dona St Columb in Frenchman's Creek and Selyse Baratheon in the popular HBO series Game of Thrones. She's made more than 30 appearances in the BBC television series Waking the Dead since 2007.

Having spent part of her childhood in the Bahamas, she later returned to England when she was three, following her parents separation. She has Irish connections on both her mother's side through her second marriage and through the Fitzgerald family. After her father's death when she was 11, she decided to pursue acting and attended the Drama Centre London. Following graduation, she starred with Hugh Grant in the Australian comedy Sirens in 1993, which brought her international attention. She continued to work in a stream of independent feature films through the 1990s and 2000s. Unsatisfied with the roles available for older actresses, she expanded her career into directing and was selected for Film London's 2015 Microwave scheme. Her vast and successful stage and television careers span a range of roles, from Victorian heroines to modern police detectives.
