What's After the Movie
Tasuku Emoto (柄本 佑, born December 16, 1986) is a prominent Japanese actor who has built a versatile career across film, television, and voice work. Raised in Tokyo, he is the son of celebrated actors Akira Emoto and Kazue Tsunogae, and grew up in an environment steeped in theatrical tradition, which profoundly influenced his artistic development. While attending Wako High School he pursued acting opportunities, and in 2001 he secured an audition for the critically acclaimed film Utsukushī Natsu Kirishima, marking his entry into professional cinema. Emoto debuted as the protagonist Yasuo Hidaka in 2003, a performance that earned him the 77th Kinema Junpo Award for Best Newcomer and the 13th Japanese Movie Critics Rookie Award in 2004, establishing him as a rising star. After his early successes, he continued his education at the video department of Waseda University Art School, where he refined his understanding of visual storytelling. Since then, his filmography has expanded to include notable works such as Asa ga Kita and a variety of television series, demonstrating his ability to navigate both period pieces and contemporary dramas. In addition to on‑screen acting, Emoto has contributed voice talent to animated projects, lending his distinctive tone to characters in The Bears' Famous Invasion of Sicily and The Wild Robot. His personal life intertwines with the Japanese entertainment industry; in March 2012 he married fellow actress Sakura Ando, and the couple welcomed their first child the following year. Today, represented by Alpha Agency, Tasuku Emoto remains an active and influential presence in Japanese media, continually exploring new roles while honoring his family's artistic legacy.
