Thomas Jay Ryan

Thomas Jay Ryan, born on August 1, 1962, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is an accomplished American actor, with an impressive career in both theater and film. His most well-known role is arguably in the 1997 film Henry Fool, which put him on the map in the world of cinema. Ryan received his education at the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University, setting the foundation for his successful career in theater.

His theatrical pursuits have led him to perform in renowned theaters such as the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis and the Yale Repertory Theatre in New Haven. Notably, Ryan has worked alongside avant-garde playwright Richard Foreman and has embodied a diverse range of roles from Dracula to Degas. His filmography includes various films such as Teknolust, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Book of Life, Dream Boy, and the sequels to Henry Fool, Fay Grim (2007), and Ned Rifle (2014). In 2009, Ryan portrayed the pioneering gay activist Harry Hay in the initial production of the play The Temperamentals. In 2016, he played Thomas Putnam in Ivo van Hove's production of Arthur Miller's play The Crucible at the Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway. More recently, in 2023, Ryan graced the off-off-Broadway stage as Serebryakov in Uncle Vanya in an unmarked Manhattan loft.
