**Thomas Jay Ryan**, born on August 1, 1962, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is an accomplished American actor, with an impressive career in both theater and film. His most well-known role is arguably in the 1997 film _Henry Fool_, which put him on the map in the world of cinema. Ryan received his education at the prestigious **Carnegie Mellon University**, setting the foundation for his successful career in theater. His theatrical pursuits have led him to perform in renowned theaters such as the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis and the Yale Repertory Theatre in New Haven. Notably, Ryan has worked alongside avant-garde playwright Richard Foreman and has embodied a diverse range of roles from _Dracula_ to _Degas_. His filmography includes various films such as **Teknolust**, _Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind_, _The Book of Life_, _Dream Boy_, and the sequels to _Henry Fool_, _Fay Grim_ (2007), and _Ned Rifle_ (2014). In 2009, Ryan portrayed the pioneering gay activist Harry Hay in the initial production of the play _The Temperamentals_. In 2016, he played Thomas Putnam in Ivo van Hove's production of Arthur Miller's play _The Crucible_ at the Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway. More recently, in 2023, Ryan graced the off-off-Broadway stage as Serebryakov in _Uncle Vanya_ in an unmarked Manhattan loft.
