Tim Matheson

**Tim Matheson** (Timothy Lewis Matthieson; born December 31, 1947) is a renowned American actor and director. His acting journey is filled with several significant roles, notably the title character of the 1960s animated Jonny Quest TV series, Eric 'Otter' Stratton in National Lampoon's Animal House (1978), and Vice President John Hoynes in The West Wing, from which he earned two Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Born in Glendale, California, Matheson served a tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps Reserve after high school. Matheson's career started at just 13 years old when he appeared in Robert Young's CBS nostalgia comedy series, Window on Main Street. He later voiced multiple animated characters before starring in various iconic films and series, such as Yours, Mine and Ours (1968), The Virginian, Night Gallery, and Bonanza. Following an illustrious, continually evolving journey in acting and directing, Matheson took on even more roles in popular shows such as My Three Sons, Three for the Road, and The Quest. One of Matheson's prominent career highlights was when he co-starred in National Lampoon's Animal House (1978). He has also stretched his talents by directing episodes of series like Third Watch, Ed, The Twilight Zone, Cold Case, and Without a Trace. His superb performance in A Very Brady Sequel (1996) and his role as the father of the title character in Van Wilder (2002) further enhanced his reputation. Currently, Matheson is seen starring as Doc Mullins in the Netflix series Virgin River.
