Timothy Carey

**Timothy Agoglia Carey** (March 11, 1929 – May 11, 1994) was an American film and television character actor. Known for being cast typically as manic or violent characters driven to extremes, he is especially recognized for his collaborations with **Stanley Kubrick** in *The Killing* (1956) and *Paths of Glory* (1957). He also appeared in two **John Cassavetes** directed films, *Minnie and Moskowitz* (1971) and *The Killing of a Chinese Bookie* (1976), and other notable film credits include *Crime Wave* (1954), *East of Eden* (1955), *One-Eyed Jacks* (1961), *Beach Blanket Bingo* (1965), *Head* (1968) and *The Outfit* (1973). Carey enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II at age 15, a period he didn't like. He debuted as a screen actor with a minor role in Billy Wilder's 1951 movie *Ace in the Hole*. His early roles included a gunman in 'The Killing,' a role that propelled him to fame. His Hollywood journey was rocky; during the filming of *Paths of Glory*, Carey's disruptive behavior led to his firing. Despite his controversies, Carey continued to work in the industry, even turning down a role in *The Godfather* to film a television pilot that was never aired. His final appearance was in the 1986 movie *Echo Park*. According to director Quentin Tarantino, Carey auditioned for the role of Joe Cabot in Tarantino's *Reservoir Dogs*, and despite not landing the role, the screenplay is dedicated to him.
