What's After the Movie
Timothy Leonard Dalton Leggett (born 21 March 1946) is a distinguished British actor, internationally recognized for being the fourth actor to portray the iconic role of James Bond in the Eon Productions film series. His James Bond debut was in The Living Daylights (1987) following up with Licence to Kill (1989). His career kicked off on stage, making his first appearance in a film as Philip II of France in The Lion in Winter (1968). He went on to perform in period pieces like Wuthering Heights (1970), Cromwell (1970), and Mary, Queen of Scots (1971). His versatile acting skills led him to diverse roles, ranging from appearances in Flash Gordon (1980), The Rocketeer (1991), Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003), Hot Fuzz (2007), to The Tourist (2010). His television history is quite prominent as well, earning him fame for roles like Oliver Secombe in Centennial (1978–1979), contributing to his illustrious career spanning several decades.
Born in Colwyn Bay, Wales, Dalton began his theatrical journey at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the National Youth Theatre before joining the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. His decision to take up acting was supported, albeit with reservations from his mother's side of the family. Dalton made a quick shift to television, majorly working with BBC during his early career. Over time, Dalton moved on to performing a variety of characters, successfully eliminating the 007 typecasting that overshadowed his career for a while. Apart from film and television, Dalton also lent his voice for animated movies, notably voicing Mr. Pricklepants in Toy Story 3 and its sequels. His portrayal of Bond was met with critical acclaim, with many appreciating his serious and gritty interpretation of the character.
