Tom Ewell (born Samuel Yewell Tompkins, April 29, 1909 – September 12, 1994) was a renowned American film, stage and television actor, and producer. He had a lengthy and successful acting career that spanned several decades from 1928 to 1986. His most successful and identifiable role was that of Richard Sherman in The Seven Year Itch. His impeccable performance in this role began in the Broadway production (1952–1954) and it was reprised for the film adaptation in 1955. He received both a Tony Award and a Golden Globe Award for this role. Apart from acting, he also made his debut as a producer with the biographical play, Kin Hubbard in 1951. After World War II, his performances earned him more frequent Hollywood roles. In addition to his stage and film works, he also enjoyed a fruitful television career and even earned an Emmy Award nomination.
