Tom Noonan

Tom Noonan, born on April 12, 1951, is a celebrated American actor, renowned director, and skilled screenwriter. He is best known for his iconic roles as Francis Dolarhyde in Manhunter (1986), Frankenstein's Monster in The Monster Squad (1987), Cain in RoboCop 2 (1990), The Ripper in Last Action Hero (1993), Sammy Barnathan in Synecdoche, New York (2008) and Reverend Nathaniel in Hell on Wheels (2011–2014) among others. His talent extends beyond acting as he is also a writer and director of theatre and film. His debut feature film What Happened Was (1994) bagged the Dramatic Grand Jury Prize as well as the Screenwriting Award at the Sundance Film Festival.

Noonan was born in Greenwich, Connecticut as the son of a mathematics teacher and a jazz musician cum dental surgeon. Noonan started his performing arts career in theatre, making his mark in the original Off-Broadway production of Sam Shepard's play Buried Child. His transition to film in the 1980s was notable and his imposing presence, partly due to his 6ft 5in stature, saw him often cast in menacing villain roles. His extensive work across films and TV shows and his wide range of roles have marked him as a versatile and memorable performer in the entertainment industry.
