Youssouf Djaoro

Youssouf Djaoro (born 28 March 1963) is a celebrated Chadian film actor whose career has spanned more than three decades, marking him as one of the most influential figures in contemporary African cinema. Beginning his professional journey in 1992, Djaoro first garnered international attention with his debut in the critically acclaimed Daresalam (2000), where he portrayed Tom under the direction of Issa Serge Coelo, a collaboration that would become a defining partnership in his oeuvre. His performance in Coelo’s Tartina City (2006) as a journalist earned the film the Innovation Award at the 31st Montreal World Film Festival, highlighting Djaoro’s ability to convey complex social realities through nuanced characterization. The same year, he delivered a powerful performance as Nassara in Mahamat Saleh Haroun’s Daratt, a work that clinched the Grand Special Jury Prize at the 63rd Venice International Film Festival and accumulated numerous honors at Venice and FESPACO, cementing his status as a central figure in Chadian storytelling.
